Health and Healthcare

Overview

The healthcare system in this country, much like the educational system, more often than not leaves poor communities of color chronically underserved. Resources in this section share data and solutions. The solutions acknowledge a need for better access to health care to address disparities, coupled with addressing the intergenerational and cumulative effects of structural racism and its impact on people of color's health. Resources document these over-arching inequities as well as the social determinants of health. They also shed light on some specific (and alterable) practices by healthcare providers and systems that may put specific populations (Latino migrant workers, for instance) at unnecessary risk, considering impact not intent.
